List of the 800 largest wind energy developers in the world [2026]

$12.23 $17.61
Description List of 3 major wind energy developers in the world Wind energy is expected to play a major role in the global energy transition. It is predicted to become the second largest source of renewable electricity generation worldwide, surpassing hydropower and only being surpassed by solar PV. Wind power capacity worldwide has already exceeded 1,100 GW, with over 120 GW added in 2024 alone. But who are the world’s leading wind energy developers? Our research team at Renewables.Digital identified CHN Energy, Invenergy LLC and Ørsted as some of the largest wind energy developers in the world, based on installed capacity, project pipeline, and geographical reach. They are also among the largest renewable energy developers across all renewable asset classes, and therefore, part of our list of the world’s largest renewable energy developers. 1) CHN Energy (China) China is once again leading the way in expanding wind energy sources. Over the past few years, China has accounted for around two-thirds of the global increase in wind power capacity. The development of wind energy projects is primarily in the hands of the state. CHN Energy and its renewables subsidiary, China Longyuan Power, are the largest wind power producers in China and Asia. Around 30 GW of its renewable energy capacity comes from wind farms. 2)  Invenergy LLC. (USA) Invenergy is a Chicago-based company that builds and owns clean-energy projects across the Americas and beyond. Invenergy has a renewable energy portfolio of 34 GW across four continents. Regarding its wind Invenergy has over 120 operational, under construction and contracted wind projects, and has developed more than 19 GW of wind energy since 2004. The majority of their projects are located in North America, with individual projects in Japan, Poland and Ireland. Invenergy’s largest wind energy projects are the Deuel County project in South Dakota, with a capacity of 300 MW; the Ida Grove I wind farm, also with a capacity of 300 MW; and the Orient wind farm, with a capacity of 500 MW. 3) Ørsted (Denmark) Although most wind energy projects are onshore wind farms, the importance of offshore wind farms in the renewable energy sector is growing. The global leader in offshore wind energy projects is Ørsted. As of today, Ørsted has 10.2 GW of installed offshore capacity and 8.1 GW under construction. Its onshore wind projects focus on the European and American markets, with around 4 GW currently in operation or under construction. Their total installed renewable energy capacity, spanning Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and North America, exceeds 18 GW, and their portfolio also includes onshore wind, solar power and energy storage. One of their biggest current projects is the construction of Germany’s largest offshore wind farm, Borkum Riffgrund 3, located in the German North Sea. The wind farm has a capacity of 913 MW.   Columns and data points included in our lists Company data (Company Name, Legal form, State of origin) Contact details (Address, City, Postcode, URL, E-Mail, Phone, Management) Area of activity (Onshore Wind, Offshore Wind, Solar, Hydro, Tidal, Hydrogen projects, Geothermal, Energy storage, Biomass) Special Focus (IPP, PPAs, Repowering) Further information (Regional Focus, Founding year, installed capacity in MW) Covered regions Our list includes wind energy project developers from the following regions: Africa Asia Europe North America South America Oceania The interconnection between renewable energy investors and developers Renewable energy developers and investors worldwide are forming strategic partnerships to ensure the global energy transition’s success. Developers are responsible for identifying suitable locations, navigating permitting processes and constructing wind, solar and storage projects. Investors, including institutional funds, utilities and family offices, provide the capital that makes these projects possible. Supportive policy frameworks, the expansion of green finance and ambitious climate goals across regions ensure that renewable energy investments are technically feasible and financially sustainable. Renewables.digital recognises the importance of this collaboration and offers a list of the largest wind energy investors worldwide.   Picture Source: Noah Buscher , Colin Watts via Unsplash
